Fly on the Wall and the Day That Felt Blue
A Rhyming Story About the Blue Zone
I’m just a small fly on the classroom wall,Most days are noisy — this one was small. The light felt dim, and the room moved slow,And I saw some feelings not everyone shows.
At first, it was Jayden — head down on his tray,He hadn’t said much since the start of the day.His paper stayed blank, his eyes looked low,He barely responded to “Ready, set, go!”
Then Lila walked in with her hoodie up high,Her backpack hung low, and she let out a sigh. She didn't want breakfast, she shuffled her feet,And went straight to her chair without taking a seat.
A few kids were loud, but some were like glue —Stuck in their thoughts, kind of quiet and blue. Not angry or silly, not ready or wild...Just softer and slower, like a whispering child.
The teacher looked up from her plan for the day,She smiled at Lila in a gentle way.“No rush,” she said kindly, “You don’t have to start,Sometimes we need space to care for our heart.”
She offered Jayden a soft place to sit,With pillows and books and a calm little kit.Inside was a blanket, a drawing board too,And cards that explained: It’s okay to feel blue.
One card said,“I’m tired.”Another said, “Sad.”One said, “This morning I woke up just mad.”But the best one of all had a little fly drawn,And it read, “These feelings won’t last very long.”
Some kids may chatter and run through the day,But some kids need time to just feel their way.The blue zone is real — it’s not something wrong,It just means your feelings are taking a song.
Not every day is a sunshiney scene,Not every kid wakes up ready and green. And that is okay — our feelings are true,Even the days when we’re cloudy and blue.
Jayden kept quiet — but picked up a pen.Lila lay down and felt calm again. No one was rushed, and no one was blamed,They were seen. They were safe. Their emotions were named.
So if you feel droopy or lonely or slow,And your spark feels too quiet to glow —You're not broken or lazy or bad through and through...You're just in the zone that’s a little bit blue.
Take care of your heart. It’s strong and it’s wise.
And soon, you might feel a new spark rise.
Like Jayden and Lila, just start where you are...
Even on blue days — you're still a bright star.
