A Zones of Regulation Story

I’m just a small fly on a classroom wall,I see and hear things — the big and the small.I don’t say a word, I don’t make a sound,But ohhh the emotions I see all around!

Green Zone: Calm & Ready

There’s Jayden who’s working and humming a tune,He’s in the green zone — like flowers in June.He listens, he colors, he raises his hand,His brain and his body are perfectly planned.

Blue Zone: Sad or Slow

Then over by window, sweet Lila looks down,Her smile is missing, replaced with a frown. She’s in the blue zone — she’s feeling quite low,Her thoughts are like turtles, all moving real slow.

Yellow Zone: Silly or Worried

Now watch little Carlos — he’s bouncing like pop!He wiggles, he giggles, he just cannot stop! He’s yellow today — he’s not mad, just wild,His “too-much energy” fills up the child!

Red Zone: Mad or Out of Control

But oh no, then Emma lets out a loud scream! She yells and she throws down her art project dream. The red zone has hit her — she’s lost all her cool,She needs some support, not just “follow the rule.”

Back to Green: Tools & Regulation

The teacher walks over, her voice low and kind,She’s calm as can be — and she helps them unwind. She teaches them slowly what tools they can use,To move through their feelings and not blow a fuse.

Some kids need a break, and some kids need space,Some need a timer or slow breathing pace. Some scribble a drawing, some squeeze on a ball,They’re learning to notice — they can’t do it all.

Wrap-Up: Empathy & Awareness

So next time you’re feeling all twisty inside,Just pause for a moment and name what you hide.Blue, green, or yellow? Or are you bright red? You’re not bad — you’re human —Use those strategies stored in your head!

I’m just a small fly — I don’t talk, I don’t teach,

But I see kids grow in a zone they can reach.

From chaos to calm, from stormy to still…

Regulating emotions is a superpower skill!
