A Fly on the WallBook Four: The Power of Letting Go
I zipped past a pencil, then looped ‘round a chair,When I spotted a scowl and a full-on glare.A student sat slumped with arms crossed tight—“I don’t want to be here. This just isn’t right!”
Their face was a thundercloud, eyes full of steam—“School’s not for me! It ruins my dream! They tell me what to do and what not to say,And now I’ve lost my whole day to this day!”
I’ve heard this before — more than you know.A wish to feel free, a need for control. But let me buzz close, and whisper a clue:There’s power in learning — the choice is with you.
School isn’t prison. It’s not a bad joke. It’s not just a desk, a rule, or a poke. It’s tools in your backpack, a door standing wide—A way to build bridges and rise from inside.
Yes, you must follow directions and stay in your seat,And sometimes it’s boring (or far from a treat). But boredom’s a challenge that strong kids defeat—It’s training your brain to stay calm and stay sweet.
You can’t always choose what you do in the day,But you can choose your mindset and how you will stay. You can make it a fight, or you can make it a try.You can ask yourself gently, “Could this help me fly?”
That math sheet? It’s practice for solving big stuff.Reading? It sharpens your thinking when life gets tough.Art? That’s your spark. And science? That’s power.Every subject you learn is a building block tower.
And here’s the real secret I’ve seen from the wall:Kids who resist? They might trip and then fall. But kids who lean in—even when it feels slow—Are the ones who one day lead where they go.
So don’t let your power get stuck in a pout. Let go of the grip, and let learning out. You’re not stuck in school. You’re not forced to obey. You’re building your future—starting today.
I know it’s not easy to trust and to grow,
But I’ve seen the brave kids who let the hard go.
So if you feel stuck, take a breath and just know:
You can take control… by learning to flow.
