A Fly on the WallBook Seven: The Day Didn't Go My Way

I flew through the hallway, high over a line,When I noticed one kid who was not feeling fine.Their eyebrows were pinched, their backpack half-zipped,Their voice came out tense, and their paper was ripped.

“This day’s a disaster! It’s not how I planned! They moved my seat, and I don’t understand. We were supposed to have recess right after math,But they changed it all up—and I’m feeling the wrath!”

Oh boy, I’ve seen this—too many times.A kid gets stuck when the schedule unwinds. They had it all pictured, each step in a row…Then boom—change arrives, and it all feels like no.

Let me tell you a secret, from my wall-point of view:The day won’t always go perfectly for you.Sometimes a teacher gets sick, or it rains,Sometimes the art cart just doesn’t have paints.

But being upset at each twist in the trackCan take all your energy and not give it back.It pushes away friends, it scrambles your brain,And turns little changes into big pain.

So what do you do when the plan comes undone? How do you stay calm when it stops being fun?You bend, like a tree in a strong windy breeze. You flex like a dancer, and land on your knees.

Flexible thinkers don’t scream or collapse—They pause, take a breath, and adjust on the maps. They say, “It’s okay. That wasn’t my plan,But maybe this new thing will still be quite grand.”

Being flexible doesn’t mean loving the change. It means that your brain can handle the range. It means that you can find peace in the shift,Instead of your feelings all starting to drift.

And here’s something cool that I’ve seen from the skies:The most trusted kids? They’re the ones who stay wise. They roll with the change, they don’t shout or moan,They make the new plan feel a bit like their own.

So next time the schedule is switched in a flash,And the pizza you wanted turns into corn hash…Take a deep breath, and try to say,“I’m flexible—I’ll still have a great day.”

Because life won’t always go just as you dreamed—

But if you stay flexible, you’ll ride every stream.

And I’ll be right here, just a speck on the wall,

Cheering you on when the plans rise or fall.
