A Fly on the WallBook Three: The Fear of Missing Out

I fluttered by Friday, just after noon,The sun in the sky, kids humming a tune.Excitement was bubbling — “A party? A game?”But one child sat quiet, not joining the same.

They whispered, “Why didn’t they ask me to play?”Their smile was gone, and their joy flew away.I landed nearby and I heard their small pout:“I always get left. I keep missing out!”

Now I’m just a fly, not a teacher or guide,But I see a lot from the wall where I hide. And here’s what I’ve noticed, again and again—The choices you make build the trust of your friends.

When you shout at a peer or ignore the class rules,Or stomp off and slam things and call people fools…It’s not that they’re mean or trying to be cold,It’s just that your actions were just a bit bold.

You see, people remember how you make them feel—If you’re kind and you're calm, you become someone real. But if you’re too rough or you don’t follow through,They may not invite you to do what they do.

Now don’t be disheartened or sink down in shame—You can change your story and rejoin the game.Say “I’m sorry” if needed, and show that you care.Start showing up right, and your friends will be there.

Try helping clean up, or cheering someone on,Hold open a door, or just sit with someone

Say “Great job!” when their drawing is done. That’s how connections are carefully spun.

You don’t need to chase or beg to be seen,Just act with kindness — calm, strong, and keen.Because fear of missing out is not magic, it’s not out of the blue…It’s what happens after the things that you do.

If you want to be chosen, then choose to not be obnoxious and be kind.If you want to feel close, be a friend who’s aligned. So next time you’re tempted to shout, scream, or pout,Think: Will this help me... or leave me left out?

I’ll be there watching—on ceiling and beam—

Cheering you on as you grow toward your dream.

You’re building a future with each choice, no doubt.

And good choices, my friend, keep the good stuff… in route.
